What is Leak Detection?

Escaping water travels along the pipe bedding and surfaces well away from the break, or drains into a storm line and never shows at grade at all — which is why a wet spot is a poor guide to where to dig. Leak detection traces the line first, then narrows the loss with ground microphones, correlators, hydrophones that couple into the water column at hydrants and valves, or tracer gas where the pipe material damps sound. The output is a marked point on the surface, so the excavation is sized to the repair rather than to the search.

What Savannah Clients Get Out of It

• One excavation at the pinpoint instead of chasing a run of pipe
• Works where nothing shows at grade — most losses never surface
• Correlators and hydrophones recover signal that plastic pipe absorbs
• Tracer gas as a fallback that does not depend on pipe material at all
• Post-repair verification on the isolated section before it goes back in service

Leak Detection in Savannah Conditions

Savannah sits in a temperate climate. Local ground: Clay, Loam, Sandy loam. Soil conductivity is the variable that decides how much of a locate radar can contribute, because conductive ground absorbs the radar pulse instead of reflecting it. Primary industries — construction, utilities, municipal, telecommunications — drive steady demand for leak detection across the Chatham County area.

Georgia 811 (811) requires 48 hours of advance notice before any excavation in Georgia. That notification is free and it is separate from leak detection: it brings out the member facility owners to mark the lines they own, and stops at the meter or the right-of-way. Wait for every member to respond before ground is opened.

When Savannah Clients Use Leak Detection

• Municipal water main and distribution leak surveys
• Non-revenue water and minimum night flow investigations
• Private service line leaks between the meter and the building
• Slab leak pinpointing under residential and commercial floors
• Irrigation mainline and zone leaks on farms, parks, and courses
• Yard and building gas line leak checks past the meter
• Post-repair verification and pressure testing of isolated sections

What a Leak Detection Quote in Savannah Depends On

Locating is quoted per job rather than off a rate card, because the work is a search and a search scales with the site rather than with the clock. On a Savannah job, the things that move the number are how much ground has to be covered, how many targets are in play, whether there are meters, valves, risers, or panels a transmitter can be clipped to, what the lines are made of, what the local ground (clay, loam, sandy loam) does to the instruments, and whether you need surface marks or a record you keep.

Describe the job once through Utility Hotline. Our team reviews the request, then locating companies covering Savannah and Chatham County send you their own quotes, so you are comparing them against the same scope. It is free to request.
